W Hotels Launches 'Glam' Clothing and Jewelry Line

September 4, 2009 at 1:16 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We've always been pretty intrigued by the non-hotel related items sold in the W Hotels online store, from nerdy flash drives to ugly dolls to pricey sex toys and even cute dresses. But W is getting even more fashion forward.

The brand has just announced a new apparel and accessories collection with pieces by 34 new and known designers such as Foley + Corin, Lauren Merkin and Wink. Called Global Gam, the collection will be sold in W stores and prices will range from $50 to $500.

"W is a design-led brand, therefore fashion is a tool to engage our guests in design. The people we're after are trendsetters and fashion-forward. We have a passion for fashion," said Eva Ziegler, global brand leader of W...."The idea was to create items inspired by five new W properties in downtown Manhattan; South Beach in Miami, Santiago, Chile, Hong Kong, and Istanbul."

The fashions and the accessories are very pretty and breezy, nothing too severe going on here. We could probably make really good use of some of the jewelry and the clutches but we can't quite see ourselves saying to our friends, "Oh let's go to the W Hotel and do some shopping."** Then again, if you're at the W South Beach and you want an outfit for dinner at Mr. Chow, well that's pretty easy to do now.

Since Fashion Week is right around the corner, the collection will be officially announced on Fashion's Night Out on September 10th. Designers will also make appearances at the W Times Square and the W New York on Lexington Avenue..

Two collections will be released per year, again based on the new properties that are opening soon which means Hollywood, DC, London, Barcelona, Paris and Thailand will all be inspirations. Hmph. Looks like W Hoboken and W Fort Lauderdale got the shaft.

**(Confession: We once bought a cheap butterfly ring from the W Times Square hotel store. It's sitting on our desk right now as an homage to our Mariah Carey fangirl days.)
