Hotel Highs:
1: Discovering Hotwire. The savings we bagged with it enabled us to stay clear of dodgy motels (see below) for much of our trip.
2: Catching a night at the Hotel Monaco Baltimore and finding out there's no lawsuit or auction going on with the hotel.
3: Our easy upgrade and free stuff at Planet Hollywood (shame the room was blah).
4: Seeing the baths of our dreams (even if we were staying down the road) at the Blackstone in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.
5: Our celeb spots (ahem): Johnny Depp (or, technically, his house) at the Andaz WeHo, and the Jonas Bros at the Ritz Carlton New Orleans.
Hotel Lows:
1: Getting unintentionally high in LA at the Avalon, thanks to the flimsy walls and some toking neighbours (we realise that this wouldn’t normally be a low, but we’re disapproving mainly of said flimsy walls).
2: Getting robbed of our iPod at the MGM Grand in Vegas.
3: The rampant terrible soundproofing that makes us loathe to stay in your cute old hotels or even cuter B&Bs.
4: The lousy bar service at the W Atlanta Buckhead.
5: Getting a call from a random man in the middle of the night during a stay at a Motel 6 in Arkansas, asking if we fancied any “company” in our single room. That was when we decided we were over the budget brands and decided to Hotwire it for the rest of our stay.
