Marriott's Head Chef Revamps His Chef Blog

October 2, 2009 at 4:08 PM | by EricRosen | 0 Comments

As you know, we keep our eye out for new hotel blogs on our Blog Watch, and have watched the evolution of Marriott’s blogs with great interest since Bill Marriott himself launched Marriott on the Move in January 2007. That was followed in January 2008 by Marriott in the Kitchen written by the mustachioed head Marriott International chef, Brad Nelson, whose mantra is “you’re only as good as your last meal.”

Now we are happy to report that the chef blog has just completed a re-design of the site and are using it to hype special events, such as Chef Laurent Tourondel’s (of BLT Restaurants) recent foray into the kitchen to personally fix a burger for Bill Marriott, complete with slideshow.

On the menu? Burrata cheese wrapped in prosciutto, heirloom tomato salad, ahi tuna and giant head-on prawns grilled in a curry aioli, and for the main course…burgers of course. For dessert, Tourondel whipped up a Campfire Milkshake with burnt marshmallows and ice cream. Now when are we going to see items like that on Marriott menus?

So far, the new blog is averaging about one post per month, but that hopefully that will get back up to the once-weekly rate of previous incarnations…and hopefully Chef Nelson will begin including recipes again too, so we can try fixing some fancy banquets for ourselves at home.

Still not enough kitchen time for you? Follow Chef Nelson’s Twitter to hear about his globetrotting escapades, equipment trials and kitchen visitors that include other chefs like Bradley Ogden and Eric Ripert.

We’ll be eagerly watching to see how the new incarnation of the blog develops, but we’re already giving Nelson props for his great pictures and the enthusiastic detail of his descriptions.
