Overheard at the W South Beach Pool

During our recent stay at the W South Beach, we did some morning pool reconnaissance around 11am on a Saturday. We were at first annoyed and then amused and then annoyed again by the loud-talking group of revelers taking up 10 or more lounge chairs nearby. The group, mostly women, seemed to be visiting for their male ringleader’s birthday, and were discussing how everyone had fared after the previous night’s partying. (“Who woke up naked?” was asked without sarcasm.)

We then overheard this exchange comparing the W South Beach’s pool to the one next door at the Ganesvoort South.

Guy: This is so boring. The Gansevoort pool is so much better.
Girl: So much better.
Guy: The Gansevoort pool would be jumping right now. Even the main one. [The pool plaza, as opposed to the less kid-friendly Plunge on the rooftop.] Even the Fontainebleau!

Not content to complain out loud, one of the women in the group decided to tell their waitress when she stopped by that the W pool was very boring and quiet. “Well, it does start out mellow,” she admitted. “But it will get going soon.”

Sure enough, the music got a bit louder, oh, about 10 minutes later. But by then, the party crowd had their eye on the W’s Entourage Bungalow with its private plunge pool, lurking behind the palm fronds. “We should make that our own private pool,” said Mr. Party Central.

He’s probably hard at work saving for the bungalow’s $5,000+ rate right now. That, or getting down in the pool at the Gansevoort.

i cant not think about the gansevoort south beach.

without thinking about the entire cast of Miami Social. 95 percent of the show's scenes were filmed up there.

It's not a public party pool like at other hotels on South Beach. It's private for hotel guests and residents only.  FYI - The pool next to the Entourage Bungalow is open for all hotel guests and residents to use.  And the rate is $10,000 not $5,000.
