Would You Buy Your Vacation From A Hotel Room Sample Sale Site?

September 3, 2009 at 2:11 PM | by | Comments (2)

Those of you who are still scouring the scam-ridden hotel deals on eBay should start thanking your lucky stars right about now, because hotel room sample sales have arrived. We're using "sample sales" like the shopping definition of course, not like the rooms you'll sleep in are model rooms or anything.

Anyways, luxury overstock sale site ideeli has paired up with travel auctioneer LuxuryLink.com to offer select packages for limited-time deep sales, and the fun began on August 28. This move from offloading luxury fashion overstock to doing the same for underbooked five-star properties didn't originate with ideeli however; Gilt Groupe announced similar plans for their upcoming "Jetsetter" site back in July.

While you wait for Jetsetter however, check out ideeli's specials on hotels from LuxuryLink's library, like the St. Regis Mexico City and The Sherry-Netherland in NYC. Here are the full details on what to expect:

Luxury Link is offering a series of 72 hour sales on ideeli.com. Packages range from a 3 to 6 night stay and feature a dozen hand-selected Luxury Link properties from popular destinations such as London, New York, Miami and the Caribbean. Additionally, Luxury Link is offering consumers a $100 gift certificate to use on future purchases with Luxury Link.

The possible only downside? You have to be a member of ideeli to have a go at the specials. It's free, and you can apply for it here, but one luxury sample sale site is enough for us. We're a little Gilt-y.

I would!

I have been buying clothing & accessories from Gilt Groupe for over a year now. I would totally buy a hotel package from them. They are a very reputable company (and I don't work for them or know anyone who does!). I am excited they are offering new things through their site. Now tourism

It seems like every industry is getting its own flash-sale site--where deep discounts are offered on a limited basis online--and now tourism, too, are getting a taste of the action. I'm not so sure that I'm ready to buy that just yet, but nevertheless, here are some sample-sale sites for your consuming pleasure: groupon.com, gilt.com, ideeli.com and jetsetter.com.
