Hilton Hotels Get a New Logo, New Website and New Name

September 23, 2009 at 11:51 AM | by | Comments (9)

There's been a lot happening with the bigger hotel chains recently. Westin unveiled a new website. Renaissance by Marriott unveiled pretty much a new life and now Hilton Hotels has unveiled a new logo, a new website, a new headquarters (in Maryland) and even, a new name. But much like the change we saw at the Hilton San Francisco this morning, it's nothing game-changing.

The new Hilton name is now Hilton Worldwide. Previously, the brand went by Hilton Hotels Corp. which was probably just to corporatey and distant for a hospitality company. Hilton Worldwide is simple and gets the message across that Hilton Hotels are indeed located worldwide. Moving on.

And now some of our semi-stream of consciousness thoughts on the Hilton website and logo.

The logo is new too but it's only for the Hilton company and for the HHonors program. The rest of Hilton's brands (Waldorf, Hilton, Conrad, Doubletree, Embassy Suites, etc.) will keep their tried and true logos. For now anyways.

We've practically ruined our coffee buzz staring at this new corporate logo with its two distinct shapes in platinum and gold. It looks like two half-moons cut out and placed on top of each other but one facing up and the other facing down. Staring at it again, it looks like a four-poster bed on top of a bridge. On another look, it reminds us of a ninja's throwing star. Either way, it's supposed to resemble an H. And we wonder, are the silver and gold colors a nod to the HHonors platinum and gold membership programs?

The website has a new slogan too, "Filling the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality." That reminds us of Christmas which may be Hilton's exact intention here. The photo on the landing page is of a nattily-dressed bellmen with white gloves carrying in a suitcase into an ornate hotel lobby. Hmm...the last Hilton we stayed in was definitely nothing like that experience. But we can't blame Hilton for trying to showcase its best properties.

The old logo however is hanging around. When you click on reservations it takes you to a place where the old blue logo with a scribble circle around the "H" still exists. The same thing happens when you skip on to the HHonors site. But we expect the new logo to take its place in the very near future.

One final change for Hilton? They've replaced Ross Klein, he who stole created the now-defunct Denizen brand for Hilton, with John Vanderslice as head of global luxury and lifestyle brands. Will a new boutique brand be coming from Hilton? We'll hvae to wait and see.

The 'new' Hilton logo

If you remember, Hilton had a red logo up till about 15-20 years ago (look at this http://www.playtimelasvegas.com/50226711/las_vegas_hilton_hotel_and_casino_upgraded.php , it's the 3-sided Las Vegas Hilton)...it's on the right in this pic.  Now look at the new silver/gold one.  Basically, it's the red one, but turned sideways.

changes

guess you guys didnt get around to clicking the leadership link yet... but steve goldman (head of development/real estate) appears to be a goner.

Hilton Hotels

Well I've been on a Hilton Hotel the last time around and I enjoyed staying there...10 stars for this hotel

HIlton Hotels

Hilton looked at a Maryland location, just down the street from Marriott, but they selected Virginia instead.

"new" Hilton Logo

I worked at a Hilton when they had the old red logo and the first thing that hit my mind when I saw the new one was "I"ve fallen and I can't get up."  I wonder how much the marketing company soaked them for in coming up with something bold and new ?

Coast to Coast

Sucks for those who had to move from sunny Beverly Hills to Northern VA.

New Hilton Logo?

Who are they kidding? This logo is OOOOOOLD. Remember,it used to be red and stood upright? Now its gold and tipped over? Strange that they think this is newsworthy.

important

It is really very necessary to enhance or make renovations.
