We're Skeptical But We'll Play Along With the Roosevelt Hotel's Twitter Contest

Today The Roosevelt Hotel in New York let us know that as part of their 85th Anniversary celebrations, they would be offering Twitter followers the chance to win a night at the hotel for a special rate of $19.24, the year the Roosevelt first opened.

Under $20 for a hotel room in midtown Manhattan? We should be all "happy happy joy joy" about this, shouldn't we? Well, we're just a bit too skeptical to start jumping around.

Gimmicky low room rates have been introduced by hotels several times in the past year and not one has lived up to the hype. Still, we're willing to put some cautious hope behind this promotion because it's a Twitter contest and has nothing to do with entering in special promo codes in a clunky reservations system within a certain time frame.

Here's how this $19.24 room rate promotion will work:

Starting at 2pm on Tuesday, September 22, a trivia question will be posted on the Roosevelt's Twitter feed (@RooseveltNYC). The first 10 respondents to @reply the correct answer will receive the special rate of $19.24. That rate is good for a one-night stay from now until March 31, 2010. The next 10 followers to answer correctly will receive a one-night stay at the rate of $85 a night. The contest will be open from 2pm to 4pm.

Obviously, you must be a follower of @RooseveltNYC to participate. You can find more rules and regulations at the hotel's blog at www.thenyknow.com.

We'll be monitoring the situation closely when it goes off tomorrow. For updates, Follow HotelChatter on Twitter.
