Summer is barely over, but it’s already time to start thinking about fall and winter getaways. Maybe you’re into leaf-peeping, roaring fires, and snowboarding for your cold-weather escapes. Or maybe you’re a Snowbird and want nothing more than warm sun and cold cocktails.

Winter is, of course, the high season in hot places like Miami. But if you start planning your getaway now, you won’t have to pay exorbitantly high rates. Well, not quite as exorbitant as usual, anyways. Case in point, The Setai in South Beach.

Rack rates at this Asian-inspired beachfront resort start at $1,150 a night for a studio suite with a city view. But if you book at least 30 days in advance you get 15% off the best available rate, thanks to the hotel’s fall/winter Early Booking promotion. Book 60 days in advance and you’ll get 20% off the best available rate.

There is a catch, of course: full deposit is required at the time of booking; no cancellations or refunds are allowed; and blackout dates apply. To reserve a room with the Early Booking rate, you need to call the hotel on 305.520.6110 or email setaireservations@ghmamericas.com at least 30 days prior to your arrival date.

Tempted by the idea of lazing by the Setai’s pool come December, we tried the online booking system today, using a December 11 arrival date. A “Winter Escape” rate of $750 a night for the studio suite with city view was available. Securing the Early Booking discount on this room would bring the rate down to $600 a night. Which isn’t cheap—but is a hell of a lot more palatable than $1,150. And we can put the savings towards a few extra mojitos.
