We have definitely admired Kimpton's new Lorien Hotel and Spa since it opened up earlier this year. But their new special package is one we're finding a little bit confronting – although we suspect it's our fault, not the hotel's.

The thing is, the Lorien Hotel and Spa wants us to relax, and is worried that our addiction to social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook (we do mention them occasionally) might be bordering on a social dysfunction (they even found therapists who agree). So they are offering a Social Media Detox Program for the rest of this year.

The package starts at $199 a night and includes a chair massage, free use of bikes, a walking map of Alexandria, $20 credit to BRABO to have some drinks or appetizers with friends (you know, talking face to face) and your choice of an item from their Dream Service Indulge menu like a teddy bear or milk and cookies.

All this sounds quite nice, but here's the slightly scary part. If you can prove that you have avoided all social media sites during your stay – stuff like a printout from the in-room computer or a peek at your Blackberry will count as proof – then Lorien will give you a $25 gift certificate for a future stay (valid until the end of February, 2010). We're really not sure we could spend a night here and not feel the urge to electronically tell all our friends about it. Could you?

Fail

Not only would I fail to receive any future discount, I wouldn't be surprised if The Lorien charged me extra for hogging more than my fair share of bandwidth.  Thanks Hulu
