Cubicle Dreamin' is a feature in which we ask the hotel mavens to take some time out of their busy work day, surf the Internet, and tell us what hotel they wish they could beam themselves to right that very second--all on the slave driving companies dime, of course. Oh, like these people aren't surfing aimlessly anyway--at least now their purposeless clicking will be cobbled together into useful hotel stories--we hope. Have a destination hotel you are just dying to leave your cube for? Send the story our way.

In this episode, Hotel Maven Amanda K skips off to Providencia Island...in her mind. Enjoy.

After reading the UK Guardian's weekend piece on Providencia Island in Colombia – they raved – that's the new destination on my wishlist. They describe it as a tiny hidden island which is not quite Spanish at all – in fact, they say you get a "do-it-yourself Caribbean experience" on Providencia. Which sounds just like the relaxing, laidback kind of vacation I could do with.

According to TripAdvisor's list the Sirius Hotel is the best of the (small) bunch on Providencia. It's owned by a Swiss-Colombian who's also turned it into a dive center where you can either learn to dive or just practice your skills. Best of all, for me, even the hotel blurb has this to say about its location:

The island isn't widely popular among mass tourists and we plan on keeping it that way.

Maybe I shouldn't be telling all you HotelChatter readers then? Anyway, there are only five suites in the Sirius Hotel; each of them has a balcony which includes a hammock for some lazy afternoons. There are packages including dives or dive courses, or the simple room rate starts at $85 for a double room in off-peak (that means now), or if I decide to wait until around Christmas, a peak double room will cost me $103 a night, including breakfast. Or for $16 more I can get dinner and an island cruise included – now I'm definitely sold. Providencia, here I come!
