Driving down the West Side Highway in Manhattan this weekend, we failed to spot any naked guests gracing the windows of The Standard New York. But then we turned into Canal Street, and another thin, glassed building caught out attention. Located just west of the SoHo Grand, a block north of Canal, we thought: “Hmm, that has the unmistakable look of a much-delayed hotel under construction." But which one?

It didn’t come to us until we realized the address: Grand Street is the one a block north of Canal, so this baby had to be the Grand Street Hotel. But much to our dismay, there has been very little news about the property’s progress since we saw renderings back in February.

The eagle eyes over at Curbed noted the glass going in, and also zeroed in on the so of-the-moment portholes and faux wood features of the building. The project does kind of look close to completion, save for that crane tottering about on top. And that’s the part we’re most interested in: the rooftop bar.

Got any tips about the Grand Street Hotel? Let us know and we’ll add any proposed or speculative opening dates to our stalk-down calendar.

Oh, and if you were a fan of the Moondance Diner that once stood in the new hotel’s place, no need to pine. Just pop on over to Labarge, Wyoming, where the diner was air-lifted, and get stuck into a Moon Reuben.
