Last Minute Rate Check: W South Beach vs. Gansevoort South

Not that we're heading to Miami or anything this weekend (seriously, we wish) but we did think it would be fun to just glance at the room rates for this weekend at both the Gansevoort South and the just-opened W South Beach. Oh yeah, the competition is on and we like it!

Here's the breakdown:

· Gansevoort South: $395 a night gets you a 600 to 700-square-foot deluxe king bedroom with a sleeper sofa, 40" LCD HDTVs and a mini-bar. A balcony is a part of the room but it did not specify if it was an ocean view or not.

· W South Beach: $389 gets you 570-square-foot Studio room with a 100-square-foot oceanview balcony along with a kitchenette. However, it is on a lower floor which could mean you'll be susceptible to a lot of noise.

·Winner: We're going with the W South Beach because A) it's newer and the entire trainwreck cast of Miami Social from Bravo TV hasn't sullied up the place and B) that ocean view is guaranteed. On the other hand, the Gansevoort South does have those killer views from the rooftop and a functioning spa, salon and fitness center. W South Beach's Bliss Spa won't open until December.

As far as dining goes, W South Beach just opened their new Mr. Chow restaurant the other day which is directly competing (in more ways than one) with the G'voort's Philippe Chow restaurant. But like we'd have enough money left over for the spa and dining with those room rates? We'll stick with the W South Beach. Every dollar counts.
