It seems impossible to believe that at one point in time, hotels refused to host The Beatles, the most brilliant band of all time, whose impact on rock n' roll and pop culture continues to this day, even though it's been nearly 40 years since the band last played together.

Why just the other night we were having a discussion over which Beatle would we want to marry even though it's 2009 and there's only two Beatles still living and only one of which we would actually want to be with (Sorry, Ringo.) Nevermind the fact that we are already married. Ah, the strange things tequila makes you do!

But yes, in the early days of the band's history, old folks were not keen on anything to do with the Fab Four from Liverpool. And that was true for Seattle hotels when the Beatles arrived in the states for their first world tour. All except one----The Edgewater Hotel. Here's their experience with Beatlemania:

The year was 1964 and the Beatles were embarking on the Seattle leg of their first world tour. After other hotels in the city apparently refused to accept them as guests, The Edgewater Hotel happily welcomed the Fab Four.

During their stay, the band famously fished from the window their suite, the photo of which has become legendary. On August 21, The Edgewater will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Beatles’ stay at the hotel and the band’s first Seattle concert, with a line-up of special events.

Those special events include a Fabulous Four course menu in the hotel's restaurant, Six Seven; a Beatles look-alike contest with a grand prize that includes a night in the famed Beatles Suite; and live music from Creme Tangerine, a well-known Beatles cover band.

Beatles-themed specialty cocktails (like the Yellow Sub-Martini and the Magical Mystery Mojito) will be served in the hotel and some staffers will be sporting Sgt. Pepper costumes throughout the day. Space in the lounge for the Beatles cover band is on a first-come, first-serve basis and the show begins at 9pm.

The Edgewater is also soliciting Beatles memories from fans on their Facebook page and via email (BeatlesMemories@Edgewaterhotel.com.) The winner will be selected by a panel of judges on August 31 and the grand prize is a night in the Beatles Suite and dinner at Six Seven.

So, about that Beatles Suite--it's room 272, a parlor room where John, Paul, George and Ringo originally stayed. It has now be turned into a 700-square foot shrine to all things Beatles, mostly in the form of photographs and Beatles CDs. As you can in the picture above, it's not all mod, swinging '60s or anything but rather typical Northwestern decor. If you look hard, you can see the giant photo of the boys fishing out the hotel window.

Now, all you need is love-and $1,050 per night plus taxes--to stay here. Regular room rates on August 21 start at $249 a night for a city lodge room.
