Of course, Posh Spice or Robert Pattinson could have told you this already, but apparently it’s fash to be British right now. Or at least, that’s what Mandarin Oriental are hoping, as they’ve just launched the suitably jingoistically titled Best of British package for their London property on Hyde Park.

And they’re thinking big – they’re inviting you to “join the ranks of luminaries and politicians past and present to experience London’s finest in style.” For those of us unsure what that means (the luminaries being the Queen, who took dance lessons there, to Maggie Thatcher, who ripped it up for her 80th there), the package includes a full English breakfast, lunch (if you can fit it in) at Michelin-starred Foliage, Harrods gift certificates (up to £50, depending on your room category) and free entry to private members club and casino Aspinalls in Mayfair.

You have a while to decide on this one (it’s valid until January 31 2010) but we’re not that psyched. Mainly because you can currently get a double for £285, and this costs £525 plus VAT plus a five per cent service charge, and we reckon that, if you have that much moolah to splash, there are better places to eat and go out than their in house restaurant and a stuck up members casino.

Then there's the delicate matter of your lodgings. That's a photo above which is shown under Courtyard King on the MO's website. Long time HotelChatter readers know that if it looks like that on the website, it will look much worse in person.

Also, forgive us all the cynicism, but if all things Brit really were that trendy at the mo, wouldn’t they be extending this package to more than just London? That’s all we’re sayin’.

Anyway, if you do fancy it, feel free to ignore our advice and book it up by calling +44 20 7235 2000. And then call us up, because you sound like the kind of generous person we'd like to get to know a little.
