Chocolate Lovers to Be Joined by Green Travelers at the Hotel Hershey

If you’ve never been to Hershey, Pennsylvania, it’s pretty much inevitable that you’re going to fantasize about a chocolate scene that’s basically Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory realized. While that’s not quite the case, these days green gurus might find their own slice of paradise at the Hotel Hershey.
The historic hotel’s ongoing $67 million “Grand Expansion” includes 10 new cottages pending LEED certification, reflecting the original 1930s cottages (think Cratsman-inspired moldings and trim, mahogany sleigh beds, Quaker-style accessories) but also featuring recycled roofing materials, native Pennsylvania stone on the floors and fireplaces, and geothermal heating and cooling systems. And we’re not talking hippie mud shacks — these cottages have big pretty bedrooms and spa bathrooms.
Plus, if you rent the entire cottage you’re privy to a Great Room with cathedral ceiling and grand fireplace, dining or game table, plus microwave and fridge/freezer.
Designed by C2 Limited Design Associates, the Woodside Cottages include six four-bedroom and four six-bedroom cottages behind the hotel, named for native trees like beech, birch, cherry, and dogwood (OK, so there’s a slight hippie element). More Grand Expansion projects include a new pool complex, Cocoa Kids Club, and Harvest Restaurant, plus redesigns of the lobby and retail corridor.
Cottage rates start at a decidedly non-hippie $449 per room.
