What we’re even happier to report, though, is that when we arrived (about 5:30pm), they were doling out free wine at check-in and we’re talking big glasses (that we filled and snaffled up to our room). Plus, as we were nosing round, a member of staff happily pointed out not only the turrets of the Chateau Marmont, but those of Johnny Depp’s house next door. You can see it if you get a room facing the canyons out the back, rather than Sunset (although we wouldn’t recommend passing up on the people-watching down there from the enclosed balconies upstairs). Or you get a great view from the rooftop pool as well.
Our only quibble? The elevators. We had to wait a little while for them. Also, our room had no slippers, although we did spy them when we toured other rooms. Other than that, we were pretty chuffed. London’s little sister has done good.
