The Chatwal's Rooms Will Be '$1 Million a Night'

Hmm. We think something may have gotten lost in translation here. Well, at least we hope it did.

We were poking around the ol' web to see if we could unearth any new info about the supposedly-coming-next-month (but still not taking reservations) Chatwal in NYC, the newest from Vikram Chatwal, when we came upon a new website for the hotel group. Which was neat — but not particularly helpful, as The Chatwal's logo was teensy weensy and unclickable on the bottom of the page, the only evidence of the property's existence.

But we also found this, which made us giggle: The Sunday Economic Times (part of the India Times, we believe) profiled Tricky Vikky, and, apparently, here is what he said about his new hotel:

The slowdown in the US notwithstanding, the flamboyant hotelier, however, is not completely on rollback mode. His eponymous-The Chatwal-a six-star luxury hotel is all set to be unveiled in the heart of NYC’s Times Square, later this year. “That’s a super luxury property which has 100 rooms, of which 60 are suites. Rooms will be priced at $1 million a night. Despite the recession, there’s still demand in the super luxury segment in NYC which we hope to cash in on,” Mr Chatwal proudly says.

Yes, one milllllllion dollars a night. Uh, talk about hotel hype. Other than that, no new info about the hotel except that it's still supposedly slated for a September opening.

If I had a million dollars

Something got lost in the translation.

Some editor probably misinterpreted the cost of the hotel when he was told it was $1,000,000 per room which would make the whole project cost $100,000,000.

Unfortunately it will be nearly impossible for them to service the debt at today's room rates.  This project was conceived, financed and started prior to the recession.

    -Just my opinion

Funny but this is definitely NOT TRUE!  I am sure he meant that it cost $1 million per room for the work to be done not that it will cost the customer $1 mil to stay!
