Desires' Cassa Hotel Will Probably Open Next Summer
We reported a couple of months ago that Desires Hotels' Cassa Hotel and Residences, the NYC hotel-condo development with 166 hotel rooms and what appear to be doorless glass showers (at least from the condo renderings we saw), would be open by the end of 2009.
Well, good news and bad news: according to a New York Times article pubbed this week, the condos are actually selling even in this craptastic market. The "building is finding affluent buyers who want to create enormous homes." They've sold "17 of 57 units at an average price of $2,000 per square foot." Which, you know, is if nothing else a good sign for the hotel, since there have been sad cases of hotel/condo developments that couldn't get things together in the condo-sales department and ended up crashing and burning prior to opening.
We found renderings of the lobby, a restaurant, a garden courtyard and a terrace-y lounge, and all look pretty rockin' but then, all things done up in sweet-ass renderings look pretty rockin'.
But! One more little tidbit in the article referred to the building's opening "next summer" and even the Desires website has Cassa listed under the "2010" heading. So! In conclusion: things are lookin' good, the first 27 floors are still slated to be run by Desires, and we don't know much else about it except that we won't be holding our breath 'til after the ball drops for 2010.
