What's Happening With The Allegria Hotel on Long Island?

Ouch. The Allegria Hotel and Spa at Long Beach is only just opening up but it's already attracted a bunch of negative reviews – at least on TripAdvisor where so far, no less than four people have complained about problems connected to their opening date – thanks to one of our dedicated HotelChatter tipsters for pointing this out.

Someone's whining because they had to cancel their planned wedding when the hotel finally admitted they wouldn't be open in time, and someone else had this for an attempted booking experience:

I called to make a reservation to inquire as to availability. The lady on the phone said"We have no rooms" and hung up. SO RUDE.

Um, Stephanie Tanner, is that you?

The whole drama is about a delayed opening date (nothing new about something like that), so we're not quite sure that the Allegria is really as bad as they say. Opening was meant to be in Summer 2009 according to all the publicity – and sure, summer might be kinda over, but according to the website, we can make bookings as of Friday – and from today until then is showing as "Sold Out", although we don't know for sure if that's true or it's just not quite up and running.

Most nights in the next month are available starting at $229 a night for a deluxe double room; the huge suite goes for $699 a night. Remember, we're a tad skeptical about this place since it used to be a nursing home, so don't say we didn't warn you.

But rather than wasting too much breath complaining about a delayed opening, we're saving our main complaints for the so-far disappointing Allegria Hotel Blog. It looks pretty, but they started it back in March and haven't yet gone beyond the first entry. That contains the words "Check back here for regular updates and news" but so far, none of that. Yep, that disappoints us more than a late opening, so we sure hope the Allegria gets its act together soon.
