Have we mentioned before how much we like Hotwire? Well today we’re saying again because we got a smoking deal with them the night before last.

We were passing through Georgia and instead of staying in another B&B with too-thin walls or a motel where strange men phoned our room in the middle of the night, we thought we’d get some sleep in a proper hotel in Atlanta. And seeing as W has no less than four hotels in town, we thought we’d try one out.

The W Atlanta Buckhead sounded like the one we wanted to go for, but the website was showing $229. We tried Quikbook – it was the same. Meanwhile, the Palomar had a room for $169, which was sounding tempting.

But then we saw Hotwire had a four-star hotel in Buckhead for just $95. Cross-referencing on Betterbidding.com, it could have been the Intercontinental, Westin, Grand Hyatt or the W – any of which were fine with us. But it was also showing one that seemed to be the W Downtown for the same price, which made us think that the Buckhead one was probably the W as well. So we booked it.

Lo and behold, we were right. So we saved $134 on our stay, and even got upgraded to a room worth $259 thanks to our Starwood Preferred status. Unfortunately, we spent half of that on parking ($30), in-room internet ($10.95) and a club sandwich ($21.05) but you can’t have everything, right?

Oh and if you're thinking that room looks a little sad and forlorn, it is--compared to what the rooms were supposed to look like. We'll have the full tour of the room for you tomorrow so check back then!

agreed, Hotwire can be amazing.

I only used Hotwire a few times and I've had the same outcome which has been great. I stayed in Annapolis for business for about a week in April 2008 and I really couldn't afford to stay in a SPG property like i usually prefer (which a Westin happened to be the only 4-star hotel in Annapolis besides Lowes) and so I took a chance on hotwire - found a "4-star in downtown Annapolis"  for $69/night.  Booked it - and sure enough - it was the Westin Annapolis that I had checked earlier that day that was going for a 229/day on SPG.com.   Thank you Hotwire!!!
