The Standard NYC came under fire yesterday for encouraging its guests to put their sexual selves on display while staying at the hotel. But despite the hotel's promise to remind guests about the "transparency of the guest windows" it seems all the publicity about the naked naughtiness has only encouraged more folks to bare it all...and more folks down below to stick around and watch for a while.
How else to explain the two dancing naked girls in one of the guest rooms yesterday or the folks who visit the High Line Park below specifically to engage in some Peeping Tom behavior? One told the NY Post:
"We saw two feet pressed against the glass in an apparent attempt to get better leverage," said sightseer [Aaron] Lipman. "Our curiosity is piqued -- but it hasn't yet been satisfied. We'll come back."
We understand that businesses and families in the neighborhood might not want to be seeing these sexual antics in the hotel rooms all the time, nor do they want the High Line Park to be crowded with creepy voyeurs. But it's going to be very hard to enforce guests to tone down their behavior. After all, have you been inside those rooms with the floor-to-ceiling windows? They are gorgeous--both the rooms and the views across Manhattan and the Hudson River.
And these killer views are quite unusual for NYC, where backs of buildings, dirty air shafts and other people's apartments are the typical views from hotels. So you can't really blame the hotel guests for getting naked, we guess.
But those people simply watching from the High Line are a totally different story.
