Uh oh. Kimpton’s brand-new Hotel Monaco in Baltimore is facing, like, a serious problem. Opened less than a month ago, on July 30th, the $65 million hotel in the old Baltimore & Ohio Railroad headquarters could be put up for auction as early as next month (!!). Bet Charm City seems a little less, er, charming to Kimpton right about now.

According to the Baltimore Sun, it seems the building owner — not Kimpton — has been accused of not paying a local lumber supplier $184,000 for doors, wood trim, and other materials used in the project.

The Sun reports:

A Baltimore circuit judge issued a final order this month establishing a mechanic's lien and directing the sale to move forward on the premises unless the building owner pays the J.F. Johnson Lumber Co. $184,000 plus interest and attorneys' fees by Aug. 31.

Yikes. Meanwhile, the Hotel Monaco is chugging along. Director of Sales and Marketing Todd Unger told the Sun that the hotel is not a party in the suit and that hotel business has not been adversely affected. A quick look at TripAdvisor seems to echo that sentiment, with four positive reviews. Still, uh, an auction can’t be the sort of thing anybody wants to deal with, much less in the first month of operations.

Room rates are still holding steady at $159, a special grand opening introductory rate.
