Buy Everything But The Bed (But Try The Bed) At The Alluvian

We’re always suckers for hotel tat – whether it’s nicking a pen and notebook from the room, buying branded crockery or saving up for one of those Kimpton animal print bathrobes.

So imagine our excitement when we popped in to see the posh Alluvian hotel in Greenwood, Mississippi and found that, as well as the beds in the rooms (which we couldn’t hunker down on, what with not being hotel guests), there’s a bedroom for visitors to try out in the hotel shop across the road.

The Alluvian sells pretty much everything you get in its rooms: coffee cups, teddies, food, and linen. Sadly it doesn’t sell the beds, but because you need to try out your goosedown pillows and queen toppers before you buy them, they stick ‘em on a bed and let you have a little roll around.

Having had a snuggle under the strip lighting, we can say that the linen is very nice, but the bed is even nicer and definitely makes the hotel worth a stay. For those of us not heading back to Greenwood for a while, perhaps the Alluvian could do a Westin and start selling the beds as well?

Rates start at around $200 a night.

    Two things that irk me

the hotel's website doesn't allow you to make reservations online. you have to fill out a form and then the "concierge" will get back to you. second, the reviews on TripAdvisor are so sticky sweet. I smell shenanigans!

    hmm

not that i'm usually one to look for the best, but the fact that most of the guests will be viking stove groupies might explain the tripadvisor reviews. no rezzies is definitely annoying though!
