The Hilton Chicago

If you're bopping your head in anticipation of seeing Muhal Richard Abram at the Chicago Jazz Fest, you can riff on the experience with special packages at Hotel Allegro and the Hilton Chicago from Sept. 4 to 6. Both "Chicago Jazz Festival" packages offer the same perks: two VIP seating passes (the fest is free, but it's usually bring-your-own-blanket) for all three days of the event, two commemorative T-shirts and three nights at the respective hotel. Thing is, the hotels vary in price and amenities. Here's how they stack up against each other:

PRICE
The Hilton is the victor this category, since the deal costs $684.26 for two people to crash on a king-size bed. Hotel Allegro, a Kimpton property, charges $854.65 for two in a room with a king-size bed.

LOCATION
The Hilton takes this one as well, since it's only .7 of a mile from the fest grounds in Grant Park, about a 12-minute walk. Hotel Allegro is a bit farther, as it's a little more than a mile away from the site, a good 20-minute walk. You'll want to be close to the action so that you can easily travel back and forth from your hotel to the park.

INTERNET
This one is a tie. At Hotel Allegro, WiFi will cost you $10 daily, since it's not included in the deal. But you can get it for free if you are a member of Kimpton's InTouch loyalty program. And if you aren't a member, sign-up is complimentary. If you book the Hilton package, the wireless fee is included; usually the hotel charges $7.50 per hour or $19.99 for every 24 hours.

Hotel Allegro

AMBIANCE
Hotel Allegro wins this, hands-down. The hotel's sleek silver and bold blue rooms have geometric-patterned wallpaper, fun animal-print robes and 37-inch flat-screen TVs. Plus, the hotel houses delish Italian restaurant 312 Chicago and after-hours bar Encore Liquid Lounge. The Hilton goes for more elaborate, showy decor with a Renaissance-style hall for lounging that boasts tall white columns with touches of gold. But after seeing the grand hall, the sparse rooms are a letdown, with their blah cream walls, cherry-wood furniture and 27-inch flat-screens.

And The Coolest Hotel Daddy-O Is...
The hotel with the most overall chops is the Hilton, since it's more affordable and convenient. Though it does come at a price, as the rooms and amenities aren't as good as Hotel Allegro's. To book the Hilton Chicago or Hotel Allegro package, you have to go through the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau's website or call 1-877-CHICAGO.

But I want to sleep in that bed

The Hilton looks so boring compared to the Allegro. Look at the beds! However, Allegro is nearly $200 more and Hilton includes internet access. So Hilton it is.
