Another Hotel Rate Gimmick: Your Room Rate is the Year You Were Born

Tower23 Hotel wants to give you a birthday present. To celebrate your big day, the San Diego hotel offers the three-night "It's My Party" package, in which you get one night discounted according to the year you were born.

The way it works is if you stay at the beachside hotel during your birthday month for two nights, the third night will cost the price of your birth year. For example, if you were born in 1980, you'll pay $80 on the third evening of your stay. So the older you are, the better the deal. The birthday girl or guy also will get a complimentary bottle of bubbly at check-in (so there's also a 21-and-older requirement). It's not a chocolate cake with candles, but we'll take it. The b-day package will be available through July 31.

You can book the "It's My Party" package on Tower23's website, but be forewarned, you'll have to do so without the special rate since the website doesn't give you an option to get the third-night discount.

We called over to the hotel and it said that your credit card won't be charged until check-in, when your birthday can be verified with an ID. To be on the safe side, you may want to just book the package over the phone so that you won't be crying on your big day when you see the bill.

The regular room rate varies depending on when you stay and which digs you choose. We looked for rates for the Surf Pad, a room with fab views of Pacific Beach and the boardwalk, and found that it cost $299.99 in November and $359 in June per night. A discounted weekend at a oceanfront resort—it's just what we wanted for our birthday.
