Who Knew The Los Angeles Athletic Club Was Also a Hotel?

As seen from home plate.

The Average Joe's (or Jane's) baseball game experience involves cheap beer, greasy hot dogs, and seating in the thick of a rowdy, expletive-yelling crowd. Some might argue that this is baseball-done-right, but if joining in on The Wave and bringing along binoculars to peer at the field is less appealing than cheering on the visiting team, then it's time to roll like an MVP.

In Los Angeles, which proudly declares itself "Dodgertown" during baseball season, there's a hotel deal to be had if you stay at the LA Athletic Club. The LACC, which has been around since 1880 and is very exclusive and very private (read: high-end amenities galore, and some of the best sports facilities this side of training camp), also doubles as a hotel.

So, for the swank LA sports crowd, they are offering a Dodger Package, which includes deluxe accommodations for one night, two MVP Lounge tickets at Dodger Stadium, a complimentary breakfast and parking at The Club, use of The Club's athletic facilities, and "baseball-themed room amenities" (Um, complimentary seat cushions? Gigantic "#1" fingers to bring to the game?). Rates start at $199, which isn't too much more than the going price for a Standard Queen room ($140.00 per night on our last check).

The reviews on TripAdvisor are decent if sparse. The biggest perks seem to be the athletic club amenities--indoor basketball court and track and swimming pools) but convincing folks to stay in a downtown Los Angeles hotel as opposed to hip hotel in West Hollywood is always going to be difficult, even if you are in town just to attend a Dodgers game.

Maybe a gilded box of Cracker Jacks will sweeten the deal.
