The article goes on to say:
Frank Supovitz, senior vice president of events for the NFL, said the league has reduced its advanced reservations from about 17,000 rooms to 10,000 in hotels from Palm Beach County to Miami.
The dropped rooms, he said, largely reflect a shift north to Fort Lauderdale in Super Bowl activities.
The NFL headquarters will be the Westin Beach Resort, Fort Lauderdale, which has been undergoing a makeover to prepare for the media onslaught. In July, the revamped hotel rolled out its Heavenly Spa by Westin™, 24-hour WestinWORKOUT®, and a Starbucks with a killer ocean view.
Meanwhile, the Sun-Sentinel reports that The Marriott Harbor Beach in Fort Lauderdale will host both Super Bowl teams and Pro Bowl players. (The Pro Bowl moves from Hawaii to Miami in 2010, and will be held before the Super Bowl on January 31.)
Stay tuned to HotelChatter for more Super Bowl hotel news in coming months. And if you plan on going, book soon, or start calling your South Floridian friends. Our quick scan of rates for the weekend leading up to the Super Bowl turned up $925 at the Fontainebleau and a laughable $1,074 for the "value oriented" Catalina Hotel.
Funnily enough, the Mandarin Oriental has availability Feb 5–8, with rooms starting at $595 a night.
