Hot Deals for the Dog Days of Summer

The dog days of summer are here, meaning everyone you know is on vacation, leaving you itching for some escapism, too. Where can you go on short notice and still get a good deal? Our vote is for New Orleans.

Sure, it’s hot and daily forecasts mention a chance of thunderstorms. But, hell, other cities are receiving similar weather reports, and New Orleans has a lot going for it: all that delicious food to sample, solid live music around every corner, and, right now, some fantastic hotel deals.

Travelzoo is offering a great $99 a night rate at the seriously stylish W New Orleans French Quarter, including parking. It’s only offered Sunday to Thursday, but Quikbook has rooms for $149 on the weekends, another decent deal we wouldn't turn away from. The W New Orleans (in the Central Business District) is just $119 on weekends.

If you’re looking for something more traditional, plenty of hotels have rooms for around $100 a night, including the Ritz-Carlton, the Intercontinental, the Marriott, Sheraton, Loews, and historic St. Pierre.

We say treat yourself with a getaway, and by extension, the good folks of New Orleans with your tourism dollars. Hurricane Katrina was four years ago this month, but the city still needs all the support it can get. And it’s a rollicking good time to boot.
