A Night-Light Setting In The Bathroom: There’s nothing worse than when nature calls in the middle of the night, sending you stumbling towards the loo, and you are jolted from a cozy cocoon of darkness into a blazing tile-lined light that makes your eyes feel like they’re bleeding. That’s why we loved the night-light setting on the bathroom light switch that provides just enough light for you to hit your target without rousing you completely from your REM state.
Biorhythmic Views: The sixth (and top) floor of the hotel features the do-it-yourself “Biorhythm Spa” with a Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, sun deck, and water massage beds. It also has some of the best views of the city in the whole hotel to motivate you into using the small fitness center.
Furry, Silver Swan Chairs In The Lobby: Would we want them in our own home? No, but they were sure comfy to sit in and enjoy the welcome glass of rosé sekt offered upon check-in.
Free WiFi: Sure, the paying option gets you a faster connection, but for e-mail and Facebook needs, the free 256-kbs option was completely satisfactory.
And now we play the hater…
New Hotels Always Have Problems: Roomers has only been open since April, so we were expecting one or two kinks, but we ran into quite a few in short succession that we hope will soon be put to rights. In our first room, the air conditioning refused to dip below 22 degrees Celsius. Yes, we can do the conversion thank you very much, and that’s just not cool enough for us in mid-August. In the second room, the lights in the bathroom didn’t work. Then the TV stopped working. We reported on this to the desk, and were assured of a speedy resolution…just not during our short weekend stay.
Dinner Costs How Much?: We figured we’d treat ourselves to a nice dinner at the hotel. Little did know that at Roomers, that means shelling out more euros per person than your average hotel room in the city costs. A bottle of water along costs nine euros! Really!?
View From The Back: Though we managed to snag a lovely end-of-the-hallway room, we got placed on the side of the building facing the back. The view was of pre-fab apartment buildings and the restaurant’s patio. Instead, we should have asked for a room facing Gutleutstrasse in the hopes of taking in Frankfurt’s panoramic skyline.
