We blame Andaz London. Since their reader in residence programme went down a storm last spring, it seems like the rest of London’s hotels are lining up to prove their literary credentials.

Since its refurbishment this year, the Langham has been offering a ”book butler” service (just tell him your tastes when you book, and he’ll have the tomes lined up for your arrival). And now the Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street Hotel is going one further by starting its own book club.

It’s not actually as forced as it sounds, what with Bloomsbury being home to the Bloomsbury Set of Virginia Woolfe, EM Forster et al – one of the walls in the hotel is already papered with pages from Mrs Dalloway.

There are no annoying discussion sessions here – the hotel simply recommends a Book of the Month (the first up is Guernica, by Dave Boling) and guests will be given a free copy. For the more hands on, in the pipeline are readings and author meet and greets. Plus, the all-important literary-themed cocktails. That should get you in the mood for inspiration.
