UPDATE: So the race might be over very soon. Our W SoBe insiders say Mr. Chow is opening, Tuesday, August 4th. Take, that STK!

The race is on: Will the W South Beach’s Mr. Chow, or The Gansevoort South’s STK open first? Both star restaurant outposts are scheduled to open in August, but as one insider told us, “with Miami, you just never know.”

Even though the W just opened, Mr. Chow has been around since 1968. We have feeling they know how to roll these puppies out by now. The Gansevoort South, however, has been open for over a year, and SoBe has been salivating for some “female-friendly” steak ever since.

Based on the New York and L.A. STK experience (pictured, above), STK Miami will be one hell of a celebrity meat market. Fans of the $20 mini big macs and petite steaks include Kim Kardashian, Nicole Richie and David Beckham (L.A.), and, in New York, Jeremy Piven and Jessicas Alba and Simpson.

The Miami STK will feature a large DJ lounge, a catwalk across the back bar (allowing guests “to be the center of attention as they ascend to the mezzanine level”), and a glazed screen featuring “an abstract shape of a woman’s body printed on the glass.”

Just in case you need more convincing that this “isn’t your daddy’s steakhouse” (the chain’s slogan), rest assured that STK Miami will have a sun-bleached palette, purple glass, nude tones, and white leather.

If you like your nightlife more technicolored, and sans meat, you’ll be able to head next door to the high-end lounge, Coco De Ville.

Restaurants, start your engines ...
