Another Yelper is glad to welcome the W to the neighborhood as a “decent hotel bar” option: “While the Mandarin is too inconvenient, the Willard too stuffy, the St. Regis too small, and the Ritz's Fahrenheit is in Siberia, the new W is Just Right.” And: “We were lucky to catch sight of the Presidential helicopter landing on the White House lawn while sitting at the bar - another quintessential DC moment.” She also says the staff seemed “attentive and eager to please, but scattered.”
The Bad: “Right now this place is not worth the $$$. I am going to wait a month or so before trying again.” That pretty much sums up the majority of the reviews — seems the POV experience is still pretty bumpy.
The Ugly: “The scene upstairs is still a bit of a shitshow.” And: “I've never been to a new place that immediately becomes a parody of itself, like a television show that jumps the shark on its first episode. The pretension of the elevator line, the overwrought furniture, the bad loud house music, the slow service and the over priced drinks.” Yikes.
When your DC-based HotelChatter correspondent can, ahem, get it together enough to book a rezzie at the POV bar (not an easy task!), we’ll hit you back with a firsthand report. We’re optimists, so we’re willing to give the W the benefit of the doubt for now, at least that the major kinks will have worked themselves out by then.
