Jumby Bay Gets Jumbo-Sized Renovations

Win a big award, then close down for a year: probably not the strategy that Rosewood Resorts' Jumby Bay in Antigua had in mind, but perhaps that just shows they were modest enough not to expect to win last year's T+L Best Caribbean Resort award. Shortly after that burst of publicity, Jumby Bay closed up most of their resort to get to work on $28 million worth of renovations, and now these are finally almost done.
As you'd expect, $28 million buys a fair amount of new and improved stuff, and the revamp includes complete overhauls of 12 existing guest suites as well as the addition of 28 brand new suites. The new design style is meant to be a combo of "tropical hideaway" and "romantic British Colonial".
Beyond the rooms there is much more that is new. An open-air spa called Sense has been added, and you can get your treatments while enjoying ocean views; there's a new infinity pool and casual restaurant there too, plus the Verandah Restaurant which is meant to be the social center of the resort from now on.
Even the Jumby Bay Blog has had a bit of a renovation or at least is a whole lot more readable than when they started out. It hasn't been ignored during the renovation phase, and it even hyped up the announcement of the new rates. Suites will be starting from $1,150 a night (all-inclusive) when Jumby Bay reopens on November 1 this year and they are already taking bookings, showing a strong confidence that it will reopen on time.
