Looks like someone took Nights in Rodanthe a little too much to heart: Richard Gere has opened his own Bed & Breakfast an hour outside of New York City in Bedford, NY. Called the Bedford Post Inn, the vintage house and barn with 8 guest rooms is the first step Gere and his wife are taking towards fulfilling their dream that the place "will be a magnet for like-minded, powerful souls to come together to save the planet—or at least to chat about big-picture ideas over veggie burgers."

Gere, a Buddhist, has even cleared the attic to make way for a serene "yoga loft," which opened in late 2008 along with the Bed & Breakfast's restaurant, Moonbat, focused on on local ingredients and the slow food philosophy.

Now that the rooms themselves are opening, who can we expect to sleep with Gere? If all goes according to this lofty plans, the Bedford Post will become a modern day Holiday Inn, of the Bing Crosby musical definition, with "hosting star chefs and guest Buddhist teachers" and future plans "of building retreat huts, and of forming a partnership with the nearby Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts." Already, however, he's some eager callers in the form of a busload of ladies touring gardens, albeit these ladies were from Monaco—already the rich flock to Gere's humble abode.

While it seems their online reservations system is still under construction, the yoga classes are up and active. This is the best and cheapest way to get fulfill your Gere cravings, at $20 a yoga class with the bonus chance of spotting Richard on the grounds, we can't imagine a better daytrip.

Setting your own standards

The rewards of running a B&B have wide appeal, the satisfaction of setting your own standards instead of complying with others. Good luck I say. Three Park Street Bed and Breakfast in Hereford. http://www.threeparkstreet.com/.

Great Find!

That is fantastic! I am on the west coast so I will probably not make it out there anytime soon but my sister was looking for a good yoga retreat / center and i think this might be the spot. Thanks!
