Sofitel Hopes You'll Be Sooo Relaxed at Their New 'SoSPA'

Plain old spas are SO passé. That’s why Sofitel teamed up with beauty brands Carita and Cinq Mondes to launch their new “SoSPAS” at the St. James location in London, and the one in Marseille on Bastille Day (that’s July 14 for your philistines), in hopes of sparking a new spa revolution.

Sofitel tells us that the point of the “So SPA” concept is:

“To encourage conviviality and exchange, Sofitel has created a spa concept rooted in open spaces. Therapy at So SPA by Sofitel is presented in a way similar to the menu of a French gourmet restaurant….Les Entrées (Starters), lasting 30 minutes, are designed for busy urbanites looking for rest and relaxation after a busy day. Les Plats Principaux (Main Courses) and Les Desserts last an hour and feature body massages, facials, hot-stone massages and other delights intended to nourish the body and soul.”

Who wouldn’t want a full meal of that?

Like most top-rated spas these days, So SPA’s will also use a range of their own therapy products for their So Exhilarating and So Rejuvenating treatments, which are done on spa-converted Sofitel MyBeds while guests listen to music composed specially for So SPA on So SPA iPods. Wow, that is a lot of So SPA.

We like the sound some of the features exclusive to the London property, like the Tea Bar, a dedicated spa majordomo who will oversee quality and customer care and consultations, a Turkish steam-bath, and a special treatment for business travelers called Petit Déjeuner Bonne Tenue that includes use of the facilities while their suits are pressed and their shoes are polished. Sounds like a good way to do business.

In the coming months and years, look out for additional So SPA’s to appear in Morocco, Vienna, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Mauritius and Bangkok.

Willow Stream and Fairmont spas are encouraged by how many guests are using their spa locations as a healthy local meeting place to kick back, relax and find their energy. The spa is a healthy place to meet after work or for a celebration and many Fairmont guests are visiting the spa together for a healthier "happy hour" option. With this new spa movement, Willow Stream spas are opening their doors and arms to friends and family around the world with great "SoSpa" offerings. "We are seeing more and more local guests coming to our spas to connect, spend some time together and just relax," explains Anne McCall Wilson, Vice President Spas Fairmont Raffles Hotels International. "It's almost like having a membership to a private spa club," continues Wilson. "Guests feel like we know them and that they'll be taken care of even in terms of cash check."
