Author Jane Green Dishes On Her 'Hotel Musts'

Depending where your publisher puts you up, a book tour can be a disaster or a delight. Just ask author Jane Green, who has been tweeting about the book tour for her latest beach read, Dune Road. We noticed that a few of her tweets dealt with her hotel accommodations and since we've gone a bit book-mad this summer, we though we would ask the Connecticut-based author for her book-tour survival tips.

HotelChatter:
What essentials do you look for in a hotel?
Jane Green:
A warm welcome with a smile, luxurious bathrooms, and comfortable beds.

HC:
Which extras are particularly attractive to the traveling author?
JG:
Plenty of easily accessed outlets for Kindles, iPods, BlackBerry. etc.

Keep on reading for more of our interview with Jane Green.

HC:
Who chooses the hotels, you or your publisher?
JG:
I have veto rights, but I'm lucky in that generally they ask if I have a preference. I was recently booked into somewhere in Toronto, and en route the man next to me on the plane said it was ghastly. He told me I ought to be staying at the Park Hyatt, so I booked a room on the way from the airport. He was right.

HC:
Favorite hotel?
JG:
I adore the Inn at National Hall in my hometown of Westport. It was where we got married, and sadly, is up for sale.

HC:
Worst hotel experience on a book tour?
JG:
Showing up to a hotel in L.A., pregnant, exhausted, and grumpy, and being told my room wouldn't be ready for three hours and to come back. Not what you want to hear on arrival. I checked myself out and booked somewhere else.

HC:
You recently appeared at a book-club event at the Verandah Resort in Antigua. Will we see you at more hotel-based book clubs if the trend takes off?
JG:
I loved it. As long as it's somewhere hot and beautiful, I'm game!
