CityCenter In Vegas Is (Thankfully) Still Rising

July 2, 2009 at 1:34 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

MGM's Project CityCenter was able to avoid some near major financing catastrophes recently and the good news for everyone is that the two CityCenter hotels, Aria and Vdara, are set to open this fall, followed shortly by the Mandarin Oriental.

While our sib site VegasChatter has been following the ins and outs of CityCenter closely, we thought you'd all like a CityCenter construction snapshot. We took this pic of CityCenter last week. In the front, you can see The Crystals luxury retail complex with its funky entrance and in the background are the Veer Towers (on the left) and the Vdara and the Aria hotels. The Harmon Hotel and Spa is on the right (and out of the picture) but that project has been scaled down and put on hold.

While not everything is glittering in Vegas (Las Vegas Sands just laid off 200 employees; the Fontainebleau is bankrupt; Echelon is a ghost project and we all know about W Las Vegas), room rates are on an upward trend in Vegas, at least on the weekends.

The surest way to get a cheap room in Vegas on the weekends now is to book far in advance as many hotels are offering discounts for those who can book 30,60 and 90 days out. Otherwise, you might find yourself at the Tropicana or the Imperial Palace. (Ewwwww.)
