NYC's High Line Has Opened and The Standard Has Front Row Seats

NYC's new High Line Park is finally opening in the city's Meatpacking district and there is really no better place to view the park it all its restored glory than from The Standard.

We toured the Standard last week and despite the light rain and clouds, the unobstructed views of Manhattan and New Jersey were still killer. And peering down from the hotel's rooftop, we could see the High Line in all its new green glory.

The High Line is actually an old railroad track that was built in the 30s to lift freight trains off the city streets. The first planned section of the High Line park officially opened earlier today. The second part, extending up to 30th Street, will open in 2010.

Room rates for tonight and tomorrow are a steep $395 a night for a standard queen. Request a lower floor room facing the High Line for serious up-close High Line action. And as is the case with the rest of the Standard NYC, voyeurism is a given. Just remember: if you can see them, then they can definitely see you.
