Next week is the glorious, magical week: W South Beach is opening. On this, the almost-eve of the property's birth, we felt it was appropriate to take a look back at our favorite and least favorite moments of the dramatic saga that has led up to those doors opening.

Sort of like Seinfeld and Friends did when the series' ended, come with us on this series-finale-esque montage.

HotelChatter presents: W SoBe, a Dramatic Play in Too Many Acts.

We knew the W South Beach was coming. How did we know, you ask? Because a Holiday Inn used to stand where the W SoBe is now. And the W SoBe covered that Holiday Inn with a massive, massive poster announcing its impending arrival.

The Holiday Inn South Beach Resort officially shut down for good to make way for the W South Beach — and, by the way, that Holiday Inn was the first national hotel chain in Miami beach. Aww.

And then it got demolished.

Summer 2007
The W SoBe construction is slow-going. Tipsters wrote in to tell us they'd be surprised if the place was done by 2010.

Summer 2008
Glory be! W SoBe tops off! An opening couldn't be too far off, right?

Oh, no, nevermind. March 2009 was the new target date.

Fall 2008
Woohoo! June 2nd opening!

June 2009
Okay. Opening pushed back to June 16th.

Oh, wait. June 26th.

Oh, no no. July 1st. No, July 2nd. Okay, yes, July 2nd.
