Serve Your Community and Get a 50% Kickback on D.C. Hotels

As you’ve likely heard, the Obamas think Americans should volunteer more. The Prez's recently launched United We Serve program has already done some good — although maybe not in quite the way he hoped. Two D.C. hotels are offering a hotel package called “Serve America & Stay in D.C.,” in which guests can get up to 50 percent of their hotel stays refunded in exchange for community service on their part.
Indeed, for five hours of community service performed by a guest for a “legitimate charitable organization,” The Savoy Suites Hotel and Carlyle Suites Hotel will refund 50 percent of their room bill per night, taxes excluded. Service must be completed within 90 days before or after the stay, and proof must be provided to the hotel.
For guests who don’t have the time or inclination to volunteer, the Savoy and Carlyle are giving guests the option to donate 50 percent of their room bill to a community service organization of their choice.
This is, like, seriously awesome. Fifty percent savings are no joke. If a few families can take a vacation because of this discount and volunteer together to make that happen, well, that just makes us warm inside.
The offer is available July 1 through Sept. 7 with a two-night minimum stay. Rates start at an already low price of $139.
