Fourth of July Hotels For Less Than a Benjamin

June 23, 2009 at 5:18 PM | by Jenna | 6 Comments

Sometimes you can seriously unearth sweet-ass deals if you do a little bit of hunting, even on sites that have the name "cheapo" in them. They're usually worth a look, right?

We've already put together our list of what we feel are the best hotels for the Fourth, but what about the cheapest? We got an email blast with some super, super cheapo (heh) deals from Cheapostay.com for stays July 2nd through July 5th, and it turns out you can book hotels all over the place for less than 100 bucks.

For instance, the International Plaza Resort & Spa in Orlando is going for $54. The Radisson Hotel Minneapolis is down to $59 (oh come on, you know you want to see your aunt), and you can score a Mariott Courtyard Boston for $67.

Even more impressive: the Hyatt Regency Dallas is down to a totally approachable $59. And most impressive? The Doubletree New York City is seriously only $87. Day-um. Okay, so it's the Doubletree Fort Lee, but still.

    Vegas

Does Vegas do a 4th of July show on the strip yet?  I was shocked when I went up there a few years ago and found out there is no show on the strip.

    Atlanta Westin

Got the Westin Peachtree Plaza for $63/night on Hotwire.  Afterwards, I contacted the property GM and requested a high-floor room facing Centennial Park.  Was given an upgrade to a large non-suite on the 64th floor.  Not the best Westin out there, but perfect for my pregnant wife and I to watch the fireworks in comfort out of the scorching ATL heat.

    $63 a night?

And for a Westin. That's why I love Hotwire. Good tip too to call the GM and ask for an upgrade.

    GM Upgrade

I've had good luck with this tactic... book on Hotwire or Priceline then contact the GM giving them my confirmation number and any status I may have in their program.  I'm guessing more times than not the GM tells an admin to do the upgrade without noticing it's an opaque booking, then the admin does it since the GM said to.  I've got some of my best upgrades ever using this method (corner suite at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, WOW suite at the W Atlanta midtown, 2-floor suite at the Hilton MIA).

    Fireworks

Also, the main reason for contacting the GM at the Westin was to make sure we were pointed towards Centennial Park for watching their fireworks.  The room upgrade was just a bonus.
