Travel + Leisure Picks Out the 'Most Notorious' Hotel Rooms

Before we stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt last week, we jotted down the property's few haunted room numbers in the hopes of avoiding them (Marilyn Monroe in 246 and Montgomery Clift in 928). Still, infamous hotel rooms aren't restricted to the ghosts of Hollywood; they're to be found all around the world, and Travel + Leisure wants to direct you to their list of the Most Notorious Hotel Rooms, which features mostly US properties (with one exception for Michael Jackson).

Mimicking previous lists like the truly international one from AskMen, the T+L rundown is entertaining, but a bit weak—where is the Lorraine Hotel where Martin Luther King Jr was murdered, or room 552 at Edinburgh's Balmoral Hotel where JK Rowling wrote?

At least T+L didn't forget the murder of Sid Vicious' girlfriend in the Hotel Chelsea; a little gore always accompanies infamous hotels. So what were their top naughty hotels? Well, there's only eight for some reason:

1. The Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables, Florida: Al Capone speakeasy activity and a hit-man murder.
2. Beverly Hills Hotel, Beverly Hills, California: The residence of eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes.
3. Holiday Inn, Flint, Michigan: Keith Moon of The Who drove a Lincoln Continental into the swimming pool.
4. Sunset Tower Hotel, West Hollywood: John Wayne keeps a diary cow on his balcony for fresh milk convenience.
5. Sheraton Sand Key Resort, Florida: TV evangelist Jim Bakker and Jessica Hahn engage in a tawdry affair.
6. Hotel Chelsea, New York: Room 100 is where Nancy Spungen, Sex Pistol Sid Vicious' girlfriend, was found stabbed to death.
7. Hotel Adlon Kempinski, Berlin: Michael Jackson dangles his baby out of a third-floor window.
8. Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, Washington D.C.: Room 871 hosted former NY Governor Elliot Spitzer and call girl Ashley Alexandra Dupre.

this list is snoozy. what about the Mondrian LA where britney went totally crazy and where rapper Pimp C died? or the dorchester hotel in london where every celeb seems to have a major breakdown...

The Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King was shot, is now the National Civil Rights Museum. You can still see the room, but no one can stay there.

Totally boring and predictable list, but frightened members of the American Express payroll, so what do you expect?
