IHG, Shawn Johnson Stage World's Biggest Bed Jump

May 8, 2009 at 10:00 AM | by KatieK | 3 Comments

We already told you about InterContinental’s sweet buy-two-get-one-free deal, but we’re sorta smitten with the big promo IHG staged yesterday and just had to share.

The global hotel chain installed extra-springy, extra-huge “beds” in Shanghai, Paris, London, and New York, and invited celebrity athletes, staffers, and schmucks on the street to jump on the beds — a gimmick they’ve dubbed the World’s Biggest Bed Jump. Olympic darling Shawn Johnson helped christen the bed in New York’s Bryant Park (see photos and videos here).

Touting nearly 5 million free nights at 4,000-plus hotels worldwide, IHG said they’d like to emphasize that you can “literally jump from bed to bed to bed.” To construct the giant beds, a team of 100 people toiled for five weeks to build 42-foot-by-28-foot beds, which is the equivalent of about 100 double beds in size, using six tons of steel, 2,200 pounds of wood, and more than 200,000 nuts and bolts. OK, so maybe Mother Earth isn’t the winner here, but let’s remember that moms have always frowned on bed jumping.

Register for the promotion at GetAFreeNight.com, then stay two nights (they don’t have to be consecutive or even at the same brand!) by July 3, then use your free night between July 3 and Dec. 26. The promo maxes out at four free nights.

But here’s what we really want to know: Did anyone bed jump yesterday?
