Golf, Not Swine Pandemic, at The St. Regis in Punta Mita

Word on beach is that there is no swine flu in Riviera Nayarit. Instead, pricey luxury golfing packages are spreading quickly through the stretch of Mexican paradise.

To reassure the traveling public, Dr. Omar Reynozo Gallegos, the Minister of Health for the state of Nayarit and Dr. José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, National Secretary of Health of Mexico have reported no cases in the state.

“As Riviera Nayarit is Mexico’s newest destination, and has undergone incredible growth since its inception almost two years ago, we are pleased that travelers can still visit the region with a sense of security that the H1N1 Virus has not been spread here,” said Marc Murphy, Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Thus, the rabid spread of golf packages through the Pacific region is one strategy being utilized to replace fear with golf fanaticism.

We like Punta Mita's St. Regis(Jennifer Aniston's choice hotel in the area) which has the "Golf Aficionado" package. Guests get two green fees at the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus course, Pacífico, along with the option to room upgrade and score a private butler.

While Jen probably would rather wish swine flu on Angelina Jolie, instead she can tee off the mother of six by hitting some balls around with Brad Pitt. Package rates start from $645 a night with a minimum stay of four nights. Availability is through December 19, 2009.
