In fact, the day of our visit was so perfect and with both the Fernsehturm (TV Tower) and Berliner Dom (cathedral) in clear view, the rooftop was packed with afternoon tea and prosecco drinkers this may be Berlin, but the Hotel de Rome fancies itself very Italian. As a result, our single self couldn't find a single empty seat for enjoying the full tea spread and so we settled for the aforementioned glass of prosecco, which would normally accompany the full tea service here.
To try your luck at the Hotel de Rome's afternoon tea, you must first go to reception and have them use their card to get the elevator to take you to the 4th floor above the lobby for access to the rooftop bar. There between 2-6pm, for around a pricey 34 Euro per person, one can lean back and take in the sights of the city with an "aromatic selection of teas, an assortment of tea-sandwiches, freshly baked scones and scrumptious pastries."
Actually, if staying in the thick of the tourist things and having constant rooftop access sounds appealing, the 5-star Hotel de Rome has manageable summer rates starting from 250 Euro per night, when we were all wound up to expect more than 400 Euro. Don't forget that this baby even has a swimming pool; historical status can't hold this building back from slathering on the luxury amenities.
