San Fran's Newest Hotel Sure to Please the Voyeurs Among Us

Where: 690 Fifth St [map], San Francisco, CA, United States

Curbed SF has the skinny on the newest hotel coming to San Franciso: the Hotel SoMa (SoMa stands for South of Market.)

Currently, there's only rendering-porn for us hotel geeks to gawk at, but Curbed reports that the 75-room pool will be "chock full of the eco-bullet points" such as bike rentals, LEED certification and energy-efficient LED lights.

But perhaps the most striking design feature of this hotel is a suspended rooftop glass-bottom swimming pool. From the David Baker + Partners Architects:

Clad in exterior glass panels illuminated by efficient LED lighting, the facade will appear to light up like a lantern at night.

It will also allow people pulling up into the hotel's drive to peer up and gaze at the swimmers. Hopefully, no one will be skinny-dipping. Or hopefully they will?

    Ghost Town

Even a pool... in San Francisco!?! On second thought, they better have a pool. There is nothing but tumbleweeds and crack-heads on 5th and Townsend.

Any word on who is going to manage this economic bastion of hope?

What time of the year can people use this pool?

I forgot to add that I am not sure when people can use outdoor pools in San Fran since most of the year is just too nippy.

My in-laws live in San Francisco and there has been approximately one day in the 7 years I have been going there that I was hot enough to stick my toes in a pool in San Fran. That was two weeks ago. Then the next day, it went back to freezing cold and windy.
