What causes a fully-grown (possibly even more than fully grown, *ahem*), athletic man (who has no problem with objects coming at him at 85 miles per hour) to sleep with a baseball bat beside him while he stays in an opulent, luxurious old hotel? Ghosties, of course.

Apparently, a bunch of ballplayers are going around claiming that the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee — where many, many pro baseball and basketball teams stay when they're in town to play the Milwaukee teams — is totes haunted.

Per ABC News:

Some members of the Brewers heard the ghost stories when they visited Milwaukee while playing for other teams. "There was a few people that said there was particular floor -- I don't know which one. But there might be some chains rattling or something at night," Trevor Hoffman said.

"The halls seem like they're really creepy. You know, just really cringy a lot," Mike Cameron said.

A player for the Dodgers has been known to sleep with a baseball bat for protection after hearing odd noises. And two pairs of Florida Marlins players reportedly demand to share a room when they're in Milwaukee because they're afraid of ghosts.

Oh, jeez, okay. Also, certain guests have claimed that they've actually seen the ghost of hotel's founder Charles Pfister chillin on the hotel's front staircase.

We're gonna have to agree with the hotel spokespeople here and add this: "any building more than 100 years old is going to have some 'squeaks and creaks.'"

Also, there is this newer hotel in Milwaukee that you can switch to, guys. It's probably not haunted yet, as it just opened up. Maybe you've heard of it. Oh — but then you'll be out of excuses for totally choking on the field (zing!)
