The NoMad Hotel Won't Be Threatening Ace NYC Until Winter

The Ace New York has opened. Damn, it feels good to say that. And now that we've watched it (very slowly and painfully) open its doors and have actually spent a night there, it's time to turn our attention to the next hotel that's opening in New York's "NoMad" (that's the apparently-new, cutesy name for the 'hood North of Madison) district: The NoMad, a 160-room property with LEED hopes at 28th and Broadway. Yes, 28th and Broadway — so close to the Ace that we even got 'em confused one time.

With Jacques Garcia — the designer behind the swank Hôtel Costes in Paris — doin' up the rooms in a "chic French bohemian and international feel," this place is set to have a totally different vibe than the funky-grandpa Ace; the emphasis, from what we can glean from the still-skeletal website, will be on luxury.

According to that Hospitality Design article we saw, we can also expect a few more things to distinguish the NoMad from the Ace:

High ceilings, wood floors, abundant natural light thanks to large double windows, and a mosaic tile bathroom floor that mimics the design of the bedroom's Persian carpet. In the lobby, "everything mingles," says Garcia. "The lobby, the restaurant, and the bar become one house." Other standouts: a glass-covered atrium, a rooftop penthouse and outdoor terrace with heady views of the Empire State Building, and a Turkish steam room in the fitness room.

The only other tidbit of info we could pick up: the opening is still set for Winter 2009/2010 — which, in NYC hotel-opening-language, probably means — realistically — Spring 2010. Other than that, all's pretty quiet on the NoMad front for now...
