With Hyatt's Wedding Gift Registry, Your Guests Can Buy You a Honeymoon

June 1, 2009 at 4:12 PM | by Jenna | 1 Comment

Wedding season is here. For many of us, that means it's time to dust off the dancin' shoes, check out those registries and clear room in the closet for that hideous bridesmaid's dress — but for a lucky (or unlucky) few, now's the time to be picking out invitations, scoping out florists, test-driving DJ's and showing off that blinding bling. This week, we're kicking off a summer of bringing you all the new need-to-know info about hotel weddings — tips, news and info about what goes down at hotels during the summertime vow season — whether you're attending one or saying your nuptials. Got some hotel wedding tips for us? Send 'em over.

Hot on the heels of another big-box hotel chain getting their foot in the ol' door of the wedding biz in a big way (see Hilton's "Guestiquette" one-stop wedding site), Hyatt has just announced a way to "bring the gift of travel" to brides and grooms: The Hyatt Gift Registry.

This is kind of a sweet idea. Designed "for couples for whom a traditional registry has become obsolete" (er, or brides and grooms that have the travel bug), the Hyatt Gift Registry offers an opportunity for couples to register (online) for Hyatt Gift Cards and Hyatt Check Certificates that can be redeemed for amenities, services, and overnight stays at Hyatt properties around the world.

The Hyatt Gift Card and Hyatt Check Certificates never expire, have no blackout dates, and can be used before, during, or after the wedding (engagement trip! Destination wedding! Honeymoon!)

Engaged couples just have to go to the website, set up an account, and pick out what they want — couples get a "Review Gift" page that shows all gifts that have been purchased, when they were bought and by whom — and, if they're up for it, the couple can opt to be notified by email every time someone makes a purchase.

Check out a sample registry here.

At the end of the day if you are a couple who has everything they need for their home, you're going to ask if people can contribute towards your honeymoon. Unlike just asking people for money though, I can see this appealing more, as you can buy the couple a massage, or room service instead of contributing to their honeymoon overall. Not something we offer in our hotel in Cheltenham, but then Cheltenham is hardly the honeymoon capital! Jason
