Whist, the restaurant at the swank Viceroy Santa Monica Hotel, is bringing back its poolside summer specials, including “Summer Fridays” (a nice alternative for those of us who don't get 'em at work) and “Taste of Tuesdays.”

Since Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of summer, Summer Fridays begin today with a 4-hour happy hour from 2-6pm. For the 2 o’clock hour, drinks are just $2; at 3:00, they cost $3, and so on. There is also a new bar food menu including fried chicken and biscuit sliders for $2, and oysters on the half shell for $3. Summer Fridays will run through August 28.

Can’t get over to Santa Monica on a weekend? Try “Taste of Tuesday” starting June 2. Cocktails and food items will cost just $5 poolside every Tuesday from 6-9pm through Labor Day. Go all out and get a carafe of the sangria for just $15, or a plate of 5 “tastes” for $20.

Tuesdays also happen to be the day of one of favorite specials in town: “Wine Lover’s Night,” when you can enjoy any bottle from the restaurant’s wine list for just $25. When you go for one of the Stag’s Leap, Cakebread or Foley wines, that can really add up to huge discounts.

We might be in the grips of an historic recession, but that doesn’t mean you can’t live the good life for pennies on the dollar.
